Dr Nicholas Okunu – Executive Director

Nicholas Okunu is a medical scientific officer (Hematologist) with a bachelor in Medicine and Medical Lab Science. He is trained in hospital blood transfusion management systems, and recently completed his graduate program in Health Service Management. Mr. Okunu has worked for the Ministry of Health as a health service coordinator for malaria control programs, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and medicine chain management. Furthermore, he has worked as a vice chairperson for the Ugandan Medical Association in the Northern Uganda region. Mr Okunu founded Child Hug Uganda with Mr Larem and works as Executive Director for the organization.

Jackson Larem

Deputy Director for Education

Jackson Larem holds a degree in Business Administration. He has worked as a field officer for Path Ministry and as a project coordinator for Global Refugee International. He currently works for Samaritan Purse International as a field manager in humanitarian food relief. He and Mr Okunu founded Child Hug Uganda in 2011.

Brenda Apio

Programme Manager

Brenda Apio is has graduated from the MSc programme in Global Health at the University of Copenhagen and holds a Bachelor in Public Administration and Management from Gulu University. She volunteered for the Aids Information Center Lira, and interned at the WHO, Regional Office for Europe. She serves as programme manager for the organization.

Kina Hiller

Board member

Kina Hiller has a MSc in Global Health at the University of Copenhagen and holds a Bachelor in Economics and Management Science. She has several years of experience working on health system strengthening, HIV/AIDS and GBV. She joined the team in 2015 and currently is one of the board members.

Dr Kizito Okulu

Senior Clinical Officer

Kizito Okulu holds a diploma in clinical medicine. He started working for CHU in 2011.
